Anyone's welcome to join, no need to ask. : D
Rules Any characters, supernatural [weres, witches, ghosts, vamps, etc] or human hybrids are what we're aiming for. Please no god modding [saying you know everything about one character or such] and no killing off other characters without the owner's permission. Good/evil bias up to the player.
Location: The Eastern Capital of the planet Mars and its surrounding wilderness, including a forest and a caldera rip-valley. It is primarily a human city located in the Sol System, on a planter terraformed to copy the marble of Earth and a city hidden in the shadow of Olympus Mons. Aliens and the supernatural coexist along with humans, though the supernatural hide in the skins of the extraterrestrial and do what they can to survive. Even kill.
Time Period: Futuristic.
---------------------------------------------
The wind rattled the autumn-brittle trees of the canyon, sending a spattering of red gravel from the walls and cascading toward the thin stream running along its bottom. Green grass, at monstrous odds with the red soil it sprouted from, shivered; exotic birds taken from Earth and a dozen other planets shrieked to each other as another gust buffeted the forest surrounding the high and crumbled walls. A storm was building and the pressure was beginning to weigh heavily on Cross' ears and sinuses.
She heaved herself up from a small outcrop, digging her fingers into the pliable soil and scrambling with her bare toes. Red dust had smudged her face and hands like blood, making her glacial blue eyes stand out even more against the loose black curls of her hair. Sweat had created clean tracks down her face and neck, but she wasn't worried about her appearance; she had spent too much time in the canyon and her ship was still klicks away. She could easily run the distance once she climbed out, but hands were better for climbing than paws and to go around would take even longer.
The wind slammed into her thin body as she pulled herself over the canyon's lip, ears, eyes and nose alert to any predator that would be waiting for her appearance. It wouldn't be the first time she had been ambushed by a sabretooth or a tiger that hadn't been scared off by her scent. Rising liquidly to her feet, she brushed off her clothes automatically, an entirely too human gesture and dug her fingers into her hair, tilting her head back to the sky. Grey and black clouds were stretching fingers across the sky, rolling over each other in their race to each the city.
If Cross was to make it to her ship, she would need to hurry and hope that anything she met along the way could be killed or scared off.

Adroushan's scaly hide is settled over a large rock, one blue eye closed and the other open. His small, bat-like wings are folded close to his back and long squirrel-y tail tucked underneath him. Against the green of the forest and the red of the soil, he practically glitters. Of course, at the moment he's well concealed. His golden body is hidden behind the rock, while his grey face and paws match it perfectly; the sound of heavy breathing, almost certainly human, makes that grey head pop up comically, his other eye opening. A female. Probably not dangerous. Even over the wind he can hear her heartbeat, and his heat inclined eyes see the way she's sweating. With amusement in mind, he slithers over the rock to land in a heap, his golden body now on display, with furry tail streaming out behind him in the wind. The pressure doesn't bother him; his home world, where he came from, has much stronger gravity and air pressure than Mars. "Greetingssss.." The serpentine hiss to his esses is obvious, but there's politeness in his tones, as he dips his head to the female. Now to wait for a reply.

Cross didn't whirl immediately; if something that big and bad had found her and said something first, it usually meant it was either playing or it wanted something. Living as she did as a mercenary, most of the time the baddies wanted something. She turned with inhuman grace, glacial eyes taking in the scaled hide, horns, claws, wings, the whole package that screamed DRAGON as she tilted her head back up slightly to take in its full length.
Jesus Christ, just what I need, a damn lizard, she thought sourly, but didn't let her thoughts cross her face. She had perfected the blank look, where none of her emotions entered her eyes or flitted across her face; even her body language was empty. Ice-cold eyes stared up at the towering monster, its whiskers twitching as it watched her with amusement. She hadn't said a word and already the monster thought she was funny. She wondered if it had ever smelled her kind before or if it was just that arrogant.
"So they finally started shipping you guys to Mars, huh?" she asked. "Looks like I'm outta the loop around here." And Hell's Bells isn't doing her job. But she didn't say that out loud. Never let your possible enemies know there was a second part of the team; that little surprise had saved her life more than once and she wasn't about to give that up now, especially to a dragon.
Still, she wished she could call Bells for backup; she had raced further down the canyon with the promise to return before the storm broke, but her time was running out and if Cross played her cards wrong, she might be trying to fight her way out a dragon's gullet. It was times like these that she needed to learn to carry a gun, or a least a knife with her whenever she went out; claws, teeth and speed didn't always win the day.

Adroushan's seven-foot long body is still curled up partially, his tail not counting towards his length. His furry tail is another six feet long, a twists over his back with confidence. Bobbing his head to get the female's scent more easily, he flicks his small ears up and bristles his whiskers, which blow about in the breeze.
"They didn't ssssship me anywhere. They came to my home world, and took other creaturessss. I was curioussss and climbed onto the ssssship. Before I knew it, we were leaving and I ended up here."
In deferrence to her comment, he glances around again, head swaying from side to side like a snake. Marssss, huh? Shuffling a little closer, he now tilts that serpentine head at her; his small ears and large eyes give him a very unnatural look, especially since those eyes are just as icy as hers.
"My name issss Adrousssshan. What isss your dessscriptive term for the recollection of othersss, more commonly known asss a name?"

What kind of beastie decides to hitch a ride on a starship? He out of his mind or something? Cross thought to herself, then paused. I am personifying a giant, talking lizard. I am going crazy.
Still, the critter seemed smart enough and obviously read a thesaurus if it was trying so hard to pass as human and civilized. At least he hadn't tried to eat her yet, but that didn't mean he wouldn't. If an animal didn't jump at you right away, it was debating whether or not you would taste good and if you were worth the effort of the takedown, if it decided that the answer to Question One was yes. The Arm had some horrifying aliens that had the intelligence of an ant but were too big and too nasty to even think about tangling with.
Cross stood her ground in front of the dragon, fighting to keep her hands from fists and keeping her gaze slightly unfocused, aware of each movement the beast made from the twitch of its whiskers to the swish of its tail. "They call me Cross. And I have never heard of anything crazy enough to get on a shuttle without knowing where it's going just because it wanted to see what was happening to its food."

Adroushan's whiskers twitch again as the girl speaks, his tiny little ears flicking to pick up the sound and then laying themselves back against his head away from the wind. Because he's so very lightly built, the wind requires him to dig his claws into the ground and shuffle further behind the rock; he hardly wants to be swept away at a time like this. His home world had much stronger gravity and air pressure than this place; as a result, he's slightly too strong and wrongly built for this world. Here, he can actually fly with the stubs he calls wings, as long as it is windy.
"Crosssss... I sssseeee."
Thoughtfully, he tilts his serpentine head until he can see her better and runs his tongue out to taste the air.
"My food? I wassssn't interessssted in the food... I wasss interesssted in the workingsss of the flying contraption, the sssship. I sssspent the journey in the engine room, lissstening to the humansss talking. How elsssse do you think I learnt your languagesss?"
He has an affinity for languages; he can hear part of one and begin to understand it almost immediately. A week on a Starship would be more than enough time for him to learn an entire language. Unfortunately, this amazing intelligence doesn't stretch to much else, because he's just about as bright as a human in all other aspects.

"If people can read books, I'm sure a talking dragon could," she muttered then shook her head. The wind was smelling of ozone from sheet lightning buried in the clouds and dust was rising in a fit grit as the deserts that stretched around the limits of the city began to rise in the storm. Though Mars had been terraformed for the most part, the desert still inexorably stole back the land, requiring the nomads in the mountains and valleys to use camels and blesbucks to get around in the sand. But within at least one hundred miles of the city, there was still green and the fact that sand was blowing in meant the storm would be bad.
Cross resisted the urge to look behind her, toward her ship. Hell's Bells would have to be back at their rendevouzes point by now, and would come looking for her if she didn't show up within the next 10 minutes; Bells was not known for her patient nature, except when it came to computers. She had to get back to her ship and her apartment, or else she would be blown away along with half of the saplings and leaves in the forest.
"Look, dragon, lizard, whatever you are, there's a storm coming and on Mars, that means dust, rain, and lightning, so you have your choice of getting skinned, drowned or cooked. I suggest you find a hole somewhere to hide and maybe if I come back out this way again, we can continue this conversation. But I'd really like to make it to 30, so I gotta get outta here. Nice meeting you."
Not exactly graceful, but Cross had a healthy fear of the weather on Mars and did her best not to take her chances. She had lived on the planet for most of her life and knew when to fight and when to flee and there was no way to fight a storm unless you were a Llethlowynn. And even then it was almost too dangerous; their weather witches were far and few in between, and the only one she knew could control snow, not rain and lightning.
Cross began to back away from the dragon, keeping her glacial blue eyes on the dragon and almost unwilling to turn her back on the beast.

Adroushan isn't too sure what a book is, or why he would want to 'read' it, but he conceeds with a nod of his head that anything a human can do, he can probably do. Except walk bipedally, since he tends to fall flat on his snout when he tries. Shuffling himself up onto his feet again and flapping tiny wings against the wind, he opens his jaws to taste the air.
"Dragon. Mosssst certainly a dragon."
The storm itself doesn't bother him; his kind have a love of water, so drowning is out of the question. He's pretty sure his scales don't conduct electricity and he's not entirely sure who would dare to skin him (it doesn't occur to him that sand and wind could possibly hurt).
"I doubt I would fit in a hole. Perhapssss I could accompany you, at leasssst asss far asss where you need to go? I can offer protection from other creaturesssss, I sssssuppose, and you will provide me with company. If you are heading for another flying contraption, I would love to invesssstigate it."
Flicking his whiskers, he takes a small step towards her and then sends an amused ripple down the length of his body, meaning his tail blows out behind him, fur flying in the wind; his moustache is also lifted, whipping around his head comically.

Ohhh shit do not tell me I just picked up another stray, Cross thought, then felt a little guilty. She hadn't thought of Hell's Bells as a stray for years and just because she was panicked at the thought of a dragon trailing after her didn't merit it. Bells had been an invaluable addition to her team and her addiction to the internet and information after a childhood deprived of it served Cross more times than she could count whenever she had a job or a client she wasn't sure of. Maybe she could do some research on dragons when she made it back... if she made it back in one piece. Maybe two if all her parts were working.
Really, though, could she leave something that was at least as smart as a human and far more polite to wither in the storm? Her bleeding heart said no and there she had it, she had another stray. She sighed and shook her head; at least Bells was her own species, how was she going to hide a dragon or feed it? She wasn't sure if her apartment was big enough for a 13-foot lizard.
"All right, I guess you can come along," Cross said, running a hand through her tangled hair. "How fast can you run? Or... are you going to fly?" She looked doubtfully at the stunted wings just behind his shoulder joints.

Adroushan's face lights up in the nearest he can get to happy expression when he's allowed to accompany her. Scrambling properly to his feet, it involves winding out all the constant curls and knots in his body; after a minute, he's stood there at his full length, wings flapping against his back.
"I can run at... 21 milesssss per hour, the ssssame assss a very fassst human sssprinter. Only I can keep running for an hour. I can fly in the direction that the wind issss blowing, though not very well, yet."
Shaking his tail out, he gives her a friendly look and then starts off a few steps at a lively pace. His odd paws, with their external thumbs, make him look very awkward, as well as his quite short legs compared with his body; but when he moves, it's a kind of undulating rhythm of curves, his tail going side to side and his head following. He can go quite fast at a horse-like gallop, but this walk is more comical than anything. Sort of like a snake, only with legs, still moving like a snake.
"Thank you for allowing me to accompany you."
