Cloud's eyes flicker up and down Desiderius, rather blatently scanning him for threat and then he sits beside his brother; a more correct term would be 'slumps', because while Ezra sits with his elbows on his knees, Cloud leans back against the couch and puts an arm over the back, his legs quite wide apart.
"I see. I ain't totally unaffected. After four hours, I'll be joining my brother, unless I wanna become deep fried."
He also glances at Ezra, when the other male does and there's more protectiveness in his expression, though possibly more because he needs the boy to see for him than the fact that he feels brotherly love.
Ezra just blinks, absently, being still staring out the window at the full moon. "Erm... I like them... it's just..." He now looks at Cloud, shyly, to ask him to explain.
"He's pretty shy, but he's smart. He's got vampire reflexes and better intelligence than 90% of the vampires I know. He beats video games and things designed for humans in around five seconds flat."
"But... I-it'd keep me busy... I-I suppose."
The younger boy flashes both Macto and Desiderius a shy smile and then shuffles closer to Cloud's larger body, instinctively seeking protection. Cloud, however, has gone back to eyeing Desiderius and doesn't notice. Because he feels slightly nervous, in a room with two other male vampires. He felt less on edge when Anastasia was here, though he's not sure why. Perhaps because she seemed more... trusting.

Desiderius laughed openly. "Well, I think I might be in a run for my money." Desiderius was most lighthearted of the three. He was also the most...human, which was odd, because that idealistically should have been Anastasia. He had his pains, he kept them inside. But he also had a natural air of happiness that many vampires could never find. "Unless you'd rather do something else. We've got plenty to do. You name it, we've got--"
Macto, meanwhile, was still standing next to the fireplace, observing the situation at hand. For some reason, he felt very off today. Perhaps it was because he hadn't fed in several days, perhaps because they haven't had company in at least a decade. But Macto knew exactly what was making the muffled crashing sound just several feet below the stone floor. Desiderius paused mid sentence, but living in the house and knowing what it was he tried to act as though he hadn't heard anything. If the two on the couch were humans, no interruption would have occurred to them, but Macto was certain they had heard it.
Anastasia turned her head to meet his eyes, and a silence hushed over the room. Macto panicked. This was not the situation he was searching for at this particular moment. "Desiderius, can you assist me in the other room for a moment?" Desiderius nodded, and Macto turned to face his guests. "If you'll excuse us, we have something to take care of. We won't take long. Anastasia," he said, looking for a distraction and turning to look at her. "Perhaps you can...get them something to drink?" And with that he exited the room briskly and took a long corridor that led off of the round room with no windows and disappeared from sight.

Cloud grins faintly when the male laughs, looking over at the blushing Ezra with amusement. His brother's probably going to be spoiled for choice here, though he's not sure what he himself is going to do. His eyes seem drawn back to Macto, watching him warily, though again, he's not entirely clear why he feels so... nervous about this whole setup. Perhaps because vampires are not usually so inclined to share their home.
Of course he freezes when he hears the faint noises, through the floor; his head tilts, eyes fixing on the exact point where it comes from; Ezra squeaks and clutches his brother's arm, flattening against his side in fear. The two have learnt to stick together whenever there are... unknown factors. Not that Cloud looks very happy with the contact, his upper lip curling to show his fangs.
"What was that?" He automatically looks to Anastasia for the answer, since the two males seem the most panicked by the sound. Macto, at least, has already hurried away. "Why're you being so cagey about this.... thing in the basement? It dangerous? Why can't you tell your fellow vampires?"
Ezra's soft, fearful whimpering is beginning to get to Cloud. He's supposed to protect his little brother. He's not doing a very good job, in his own opinion.
"It's ok Ez.." One of his arms slides around the smaller boy's shoulders, pulling him close. "Whatever it is, I want to know. Not for my sake, but so I know my brother's safe here."

The two men left through the hall and Anastasia was left in the room without a clue of what to tell them. She couldn't very well tell them the truth, it might scare them, and company was so hard to come by these days. "Oh, no, no, no," she cooed, now trying to console the younger and more scared one. She walked over slowly as if to console them and sat on the edge of the coffee table folding her legs and leaning forward. "Really, if there was anything dangerous in the basement, we would tell you immediately. Macto would have found that rude or something to endanger you without your consent." Anastasia straightened up and switched her gaze between the two. "It's just that, the thing in the basement is...different. Even for vampires. It's unusual, and people tend to fear things they don't know. We'd just rather you not have to worry about it, because it really isn't anything." Anastasia was begging by this point, and decided that maybe if she changed the subject, they would let it drop. "Please, please trust me," she said, looking deeply into both of their eyes.
Hopping up, she scurried off in a frazzled sort of manner. "Would you like drinks? I'm thirsty, how about I get you some drinks..." she said, not waiting for an answer, just trying to escape the situation. "Oh, forget it, I'll just bring some of everything out," then she rushed from the room, not waiting to see if they could even drink to begin with.

Cloud's eyes fix suspiciously on the woman's face as she comes closer, his lip curling more with a restrained snarl; his body jerks forward as if he's going to attack and then he thinks better of it, smoothly turning to the side to look down at his brother, whom is still clutching his side. The smaller boy's eyes are sparkling with tears already, because he's far too easy to scare.
"Lady, I'm an albino and my brother's got a fully white eye. We don't fear the unusual, we are the unusual. I'd just like to know what the Hell's in the basement, thanks. If it makes you feel better, tell me without my brother in the room."
His eyes glance back at the female when she springs up, a hiss breaking through his tightly wound control. While she's gone, he takes the chance to inspect the room closely... and then turns to grip Ezra's shoulders.
"What's got you so scared?"
"I .... I d-don't know, Cloud, honestly! It's just.. a feeling."
The older boy scowls, and slides his arm back around the younger brother's shoulders, brushing the boy's long black hair away. Damn Ezra's 'feelings'. More often than not, they were right.
"You feeling up to drinking? Remember, don't touch the wine."
"I s-suppose.."

Anastasia, not normally clumsy, rushed into the kitchen and leaned up against the counter. What the hell am I supposed to do now? As she thought of ways out of this, or at least stalling until Macto came back, she fumbled around getting drinks. She had no clue what they would like, so grabbed ten glasses, a tray, and filled one with everything they had. The assortment was various, including juice, milk, water, soda, and alcohol. They're probably not even thirsty! she yelled internally.
Turning around, she walked slowly back and saw them sitting in the same place she left them. Almost dropping the tray, she set it down firmly on the table she was sitting on minutes before. "Help yourself to anything," she said, taking the glass of wine for herself and drinking quite a bit. Time for manners was past, and Macto wasn't here to yell at her anyway. She needed something for the nerves.

Cloud's red eyes follow Anastasia as she returns into the room, the slow burning resentment starting to fire into anger. He wants to know why she's so afraid of telling him what the Hell is in the basement.
Ezra, however, is busy staring at the odd assortment of drinks; eventually, he settles for reaching out for a glass of milk, which he then shuffles back on the couch with and clutches against his chest. "T-Thank you, ma'am." He politely smiles at her, as he leans against Cloud's side, seeking protection again from the muffled noises coming from below.
"I don't drink." Cloud's voice is a little rough with his restrained worry, and red eyes remain unblinkingly focused upon her face, watching every little flicker of emotion that passes across it. "I do however, ask questions. One of the questions is why you're so very... nervous, about this noise from the basement, if it's nothing to worry about. Why you ignored the fact that we won't fear it."

Anastasia took another large gulp of her wine. But she needn't have to go through this much longer, because the shuffling from downstairs had ceased, and the only sound was the returning footsteps of both Macto and Desiderius.
Their footsteps slowly made their way back into the room, and Macto turned to look at Anastasia's slightly frightened eyes to the accusing ones on the couch. "I'm assuming we're wondering what's in the basement?" Macto guessed. "Well," he deliberated. "I guess I can show you better than tell you. But I can try either if you'd like," he said in a resigned voice. Anastasia's eyes widened and Desiderius drew in a breath. "Are you sure this is wise, Macto?" he asked.
"Do not doubt me, Desiderius," he said in a stern voice. "If they are to stay here and they would like to know our curiosities, then so be it. I would rather they not," he said, looking over to Cloud, "but that appears not to be an option."

Ezra squeaks very softly when the shuffling stops and the males return into the room; his glass is quickly put down on the table, and he slides back to hide against Cloud's side. The larger vampire snorts, then turns his eyes from Anastasia to Macto, looking only a little more friendly when he offers to explain.
"Show me. Ezra can say, and I can explain to him later."
With that, he stands up, unable to stop himself from flicking a soft hiss in Anastasia's direction, because she's so close and he's so wound up. After he does it, he shakes his head and grimaces, not wanting to get angry at her, or the others. Ezra, left behind on the couch, is watching him nervously and shivering, his arms wrapped around his own chest in fear. He's not used to being left alone by Cloud..
"I don't want to be left in the dark, as it is, about what the Hell's down there. If you say it isn't dangerous, I'll believe you, but I'd prefer to see it with my own eyes."

Macto didn't respond, but merely nodded and led the way down the hall. Desiderius remained behind and walked over to put an arm around Anastasia. He knew she was nervous and was socially awkward.
Macto led the long way along the hall silently, hearing only the footsteps echoing underneath his feet. When they reached the door, he paused, then reached slowly for the door knob. Hearing every click and churn in the door knob, he pushed open the door. Grabbing a lit torch off of the wall hanging, this was the only remotely frightening part of the large house. He motioned that Cloud should take a torch as well.
The flames flickered in front of him as he walked down the stairs slowly. They winded and took quite a long time to descend. When he reached the bottom step, he stepped aside. Although they had climbed several hundred stairs, there were still more. They stood on a balcony of sorts, and a rail blocked their path except for several rope ladders dangling over the side. All below them over the rail was dark, although Macto's vampire vision made it so he could make out the shapes, although he already knew what was there.
He walked over to the rail, and dipped his torch over the edge. The entire basement appeared to go up in flames. Below them, after the fire snaked its way around the entire room, were rows upon rows of dead bodies, all laying on individual tables, each with a very small pathway between them.
"I'm an animator," he said simply.

Ezra whimpers when Cloud actually leaves the room, then glances at the couple in front of him... damnit, why did he always seem to end up in awkward situations? "S-s-sorry about C-Cloud."
He lifts a hand, slowly upwards, to start twisting a strand of long black hair around his finger, blinking up at them with mistmatched, freakish eyes. "Um.. My brother will be ok, right?" As he waits for a reply, he picks up the previously abandoned glass of milk from the table and brings it to his lips, nervously drinking as he watches them.
----
Cloud doesn't look amused. No, really. He follows Macto in complete silence as they walk down the long hall; when he's gestured to pick up a torch, he sneers and declines. His eyesight may not be great in the pale light of sunset, but he can see perfectly well in the dark. On of the better sides to being a vampire.
He doesn't get out of breath as they descend the stairs, because he obviously doesn't -need- to breath (though it is a habit he finds hard to break) but he gasps when the other seems to set the basement on fire... instinct makes him back away from it, red eyes flickering from one dead body to another.
"An animator? You animate dead people? Oh bloody joy. Zombies. Just what I need."

Macto merely stood there. He figured it might be better not to say anything at all.
He looked out over the balcony. He saw the somber faces of all the people he had killed. Some appeared to be sleeping. Others didn't look quite as peaceful. He felt a pang of regret with each face he saw, but not much. He had learned to numb himself. He had deluded himself as seeing them as any other animal. He knew they were not, but still attempted to believe it, even if he had to repeatedly lie to himself.
"It's not so bad," he said tentatively. "It's just, we've had...difficulties, in the past. With other vampires. They come in useful, when we need them. Otherwise they merely rest."
He stared out over the railing, not breathing, not blinking, just staring.

Cloud's still busy watching the fire, mostly, the flames flickering in his abnormal eyes and making him wince away again, in pain this time, because the bright light hurts his sensitive albino vision. He snorts at the other's soft words, though he doesn't back away again and just averts his eyes from the flickering light of the fire.
"Differences. Huh, funny way of putting it. Remind me not to piss you off too much, old guy." After a moment, he tugs his lower lip between fangs and starts worrying it with his teeth. "They don't call me Cloud for nothing. My real name was lost with my past, but this new name reflects my abilities. I can control small clouds and produce fog. My brother's power shall remain unsaid. Unless you really want to know."
Glancing around at the door, he then warily looks down at the dead faces below them, squinting where the light is too bright for him.
"... Did you know any of their names? Their pasts?"

"Only four." Macto spoke quietly, as his eyes lifted to the raised platform apart from the rest of the dead in the enormous dark pit, a section with four pale bodies. Two very old and extraordinarily translucent bodies with wispy white hair laid nearest the wall. A woman laid opposite them, her light brown hair curling neatly around her face. Next to her, a young child. She laid peacefully almost as if she were sleeping. Her curly brown hair matched the woman's, and all around her was littered with flowers. One white one rested in her hair.
"My family," Macto whispered, as his voice caught and he stared blankly at his parents, his wife, and his sweet, sweet Danielle. His eyes gave the impression of delving much deeper than what was in front of him. Still staring blankly, he began again.
"The one who changed me," he whispered, "got the rest of my them first, but I didn't die. I merely changed. When I awoke, I found them like this. Dead. The only ones in this room I didn't kill myself. I never found out who did it to them..." he began to shake.
He stared off into the distance for a while, shaking from either anger or sadness - or maybe something else completely. After a time he started, and looked down at his hands. He didn't know what else to say.

Cloud's eyes follow the other's when he looks down at the four bodies, though in the light of the fires he cannot make them out as clearly as Macto probably can. To be honest, he could see more clearly in the complete darkness, though he gasped when the fires were lit because it drew his gaze downwards.
When the other speaks, he takes a nervous step forward and places a hand on his shoulder. He doesn't know much about him, or why he is so upset, but the one human thing about Cloud that has never changed is that he doesn't like seeing people upset.
"I am sorry. I was given to a vampire lord, to work for him when I was very young, because my parents feared my albinoism. They were still very kind to me, nevertheless, and they thought I would have a better class of life there. They didn't know what he was... and it wasn't him that changed me. One of his servants attacked me and another youngling in the forest. He died, but I survived, because the Lord Bloodsong saved me."
He is frowning and his head is bowed in deferrence to the solemn moment; when he speaks again, it is quieter, his red eyes fixed on the family of dead bodies near the wall. White hair falls into them and he doesn't even notice for the time being.
"Ezra isn't my brother. I'm his uncle... by the time I went back, my family had died apart from my sister. She left him out in the snow to die, because he was... abnormal, like me. He has mismatched eyes. I took him back to my Lord's house and raised him as my sibling."
Apparently he thinks that if the other is revealing things about himself, he might as well give him information in return. A sort of swap, if you will. He also doesn't suggest they go back upstairs, giving the older vampire time to compose himself before they do.
