Jesus Christ, what the hell have I gotten myself into? Neco thought as the other girl barged in without so much as a glance toward her. Guess Brits were just as rude as Americans, despite the fact that the girl said a Ravenclaw was rude and yet she just ran in without so much as a "Hello, is this seat taken?" Honestly, it didn't matter about houses, people were still assholes and it didn't matter what colors you wore. She wondered if people were just as racist about house as they were about skin color. What a world.
"Well, if you're a friend of Kay's, you might as well stay," Neco said with a shrug. She pointed to herself, then her cat. "Neco, Mister. He doesn't really like other cats, so I'll try and keep his bitching to a dull roar." Mister twisted his head to look up at her critically, then looked back at the much-smaller cat. He sniffed and kneaded his way deeper into Neco's lap, obviously not impressed with Aaralyn. Such things were beneath his notice.
The young woman looked back at Kay, not quite sure that she liked how the girl had framed her question. "Yeah, I'm American; I've lived in Chicago for the past 18 years, and this is my first time at a wizarding school. I don't read any wizarding newspapers, watch any wizarding TV, visit those kinda sites or anything and the most I know about this war everyone keeps talking about sounds like another Hitler." She leaned back a little, biting back at the vehemence in her voice. Did she really need to justify herself to a pair of strangers? No, she didn't. "I don't like the wizarding world, so I stay out of it. Makes life a whole lot easier."

"Oh, thank you, thank you," Christine said, stuffing her luggage in the racks. This was the first compartment on the entire length of the train that would let her in. She took a seat across from the Ravenclaw as to not upset her cat, and got a better look of her.
With her robes partly open, Christine could see an X-men t-shirt, jeans, and Converses. The girl had several piercings and from what she thought she saw a tattoo, but she couldn't tell of what, not that she wanted to stare. Christine looked out the window and watched the clouds and trees go swiftly by. But then she heard something that interested her.
"I quite prefer the muggle world, too," she said quietly, still looking out the window. "You're from the United States? So am I. Just outside of Atlantic City in Jersey." Christine assumed her American accent gave her away. She looked over at the girl named Neco and said, "I like your shirt," still more quietly.

Neco looked at this Christine with new interest; maybe she wouldn't be the only Yankee in the motherland. "Jersey, huh? Been there a few times, but didn't get a chance to visit Atlantic City. We toured down around Ocean City and Cape May, and further down into Maryland and Virginia. Did you ever get a chance to visit Chincoteague and the wild ponies?" Not that Neco would ever really admit it in front of strangers, but she had a fondness for the hardy little ponies more than she had for people. She still missed the small pinto her riding instructor outside of Chicago had in her stable.
At the girl's comment about her shirt, she glanced down around Mister's bulk and had to smile a little. "You're the only person on this train that hasn't looked at me like I'm crazy for having Wolverine on my boobs," she said.

Christine had to laugh at this. "Wolverine's my favorite," she said, smiling. "Although, I've only ever seen the movies. I seem to be rather inept at trying to read comics," she admitted.
"And I've never seen wild horses before," she said, looking rather upset. "I'd love to one day though. I used to work at a barn for handicapped children, but I must admit I liked hanging around the horses more." She felt rather cruel for admitting this. People weren't really her strong suit. They were normally cruel to those who didn't fit in and fake with those that did.
Curious now, Christine turned to the Slytherin of her year, whom she had never really gotten the chance to talk to, and asked, "Have you ever been to the States? I only ever get to come to Europe when I'm inside Hogwarts." Christine absently pet Aaralyn behind the ears, more comfortable around people than she had been for quite a long time.

Kay's face twists up with more curiousity, as the two girls talk. She's unsure how Christine ever made it into Slytherin, since she's half-blood, but she's talked to her a few times and considers her a friend in the I don't want to kill her kind of way.
"I've never been further than France. Father thinks everywhere else is going to the dogs. Apparently France has a high concentration of pureblood wizards, but it's not like I give a shit. I wanna go somewhere where it doesn't rain every day."
Of course, rain just has to start up outside the window at her words. Goddamn England. Rain Central, they shoulda called it.
"I don't know who Hitler and Wolverine are, but I must admit that I like your shoes." She looks at Neco's converse and then goes back to petting Bast's stomach with one finger, absently. The bat bites her finger again and doesn't get flicked, for it, this time.
"This war's beginning to make me think that I don't like the wizarding world either... I mean, look at Malfoy. Telling everybody the Dark Lord's great, that all us Slytherins should join. I don't want to kill anybody, really. Plus, Potter's kicked his ass before, why can't he do it again? I don't want to join an army that can be kicked from Hell to back by a sixteen year old."
After her sobering moment of talking, she goes back to grinning anyway and glances at the two other girls.
"My father probably wouldn't approve of me talking to you, but who cares? Tell me more about the muggle world, please?"

Christine suddenly remembered that this was the Slytherin that she was unsure was obsessive over killing Malfoy or obsessive over dating him. Shoving this from her mind, she decided to carry on in the conversation.
"The muggle world is great," she said, "but we've been effected by the war, too. Muggles can't see dementors but they're all over the place now, so it's always dark and murky." Christine paused, looking at the window that was now flecked with rain. The weather was always bad lately.
"And Neco's right," Christine said, a little uncomfortable using such friendly terms, as if she were about to be reprimanded. "Voldemort's a lot like Hitler. He killed a lot of Jewish people just because he blamed them for Germany losing the first World War. He went after homosexuals and cripples, too." Christine paused. "He believed the Aryans, blond haired, blue eyed people, were the supreme race, even though he had brown hair and brown eyes. Kind of hypocritical, I think, exactly like Voldemort." Christine looked over at Kay. "He was a half-blood, and he's trying to weed out the wizarding world until we're nothing but pure-bloods." She was annoyed. This topic got her so angry. Intolerance to what you are shouldn't spurn deadly hate toward others.
She hugged Aaralyn closer to her chest.

(( Probably killing him and then dating his corpse, I'm afraid. >__>;; his corpse can't make fun of her and is still oh-so-sexy. For a while. XD ))
Kay frowns slightly again as Christine starts talking; she hadn't even realised that the girl had this much of a connection with the Muggle world. If it ever got out, she'd be the laughing stock of Slytherin... exactly why the girl won't tell anyone. She quite likes Christine. The girl doesn't make her want to punch her, which is what 90% of Slytherin make her feel.
She does wince, however, when the Dark Lord's name is mentioned. A shiver goes down her spine, before she remembers that this is the guy that got his ass kicked by Potter, whom she thinks is a few Sickles short of a Galleon.
"I see. This Hitler does sound a lot like.. the Dark Lord." Her nose scrunches up as she avoids saying the name again. "I mean... V-Voldemort."
She also didn't know that Muggles could feel Dementors, but not see them. She'd assumed that great big black flying cloaks with mouths could be seen by everybody.
"Blonde hair, blue eyes... sounds like Malfoy. Ironic that he fits into both the Pureblood and... Aryan was it? categories. Trust Malfoy to have it good no matter what tyranical rule we're under."
Snorting softly, she hooks Bast over her fingers and lets him sit in her palm, which she then holds in towards her stomach, cradling him protectively.

Neco leaned back and listened as Christine spoke, though she really felt nothing about something that happened more than fifty years ago. History was history and no matter how much you talked about it, there was no changing it. If this Voldemort was like another Hitler, he'd more than likely go down in flames, especially with all the nukes hidden throughout Europe and Russia. The U.S. had its share but unless the Muggle President took his head out of his ass and realized what was going on, the United States would go on its happy economy-crashing way and be none the wiser.
Still, she didn't say anything. She let the two Slytherin girls talk and looked out the window at the rolling hills beyond, not sure if she had ever seen so much green in her life. She was used to skyscrapers and pavement, not grass and trees; she almost felt uncomfortable, but she supposed it was something she'd have to get used to. At least a castle kind of resembled a high rise. Kind of.

( I guess I'll goo?? )
Christine looked back out the window and let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. She rather liked History. It truly did repeat itself and she found the endless circuit fascinating, even though she'd never wish to contribute to it.
As she sat she twiddled her wand in her fingers and let some small red sparks fly - the first magic of the year - making Aaralyn twitch her nose and bat the air with her paw.
"So," she started, still gazing at her wand. "Any interesting classes this year?" she asked.

Kay's fingers are still cupping her nervous, chittering pet to her stomach, and she only looks up for a split second when Christine breathes loudly. Well... this was awkward. Unsure of what to say, she does the same as Neco and looks out the window at the approaching castle. It is more of a home than her place of birth, really, though there's nobody there that understands her completely.
"Care of Magical Creatures. Defense. Being glared at by Snape in potions, because I ruin perfect Malfoy's potions and sit next to Gryffindors. Um... Apart from that, my entire year is going to be spent lounging around in the common room, attempting to look pleasant and not a murderous maniac with a lust to kill everybody around me."
Her face is totally deadpan, but after a moment she grins and ruins the illusion of being serious.
"Don't worry, I'm not another Dark Lord. I don't want to kill -everybody-. So anyway, do you two have any fun classes? Anything? I want to try out for the Quidditch team this year, but I don't know whether they'll let me in. I probably have too many brains for the Slytherin team."

Christine laughed. "Don't worry, I won't begrudge you a few kills as long as it isn't me," her slightly pessimistic side showing, stroking her cat behind the ears until she began to purr. "But in all seriousness," she continued, "I've got Defense against the Dark Arts, Potions, Ancient Runes, History of Magic, all that stuff. I'm still uncertain what I want to do after Hogwarts." Aaralyn started rubbing her chin against Christine's hand.
"But you definitely should try out for the Slytherin team," Christine said happily. "I'm so sick of being surrounded by gits without brains. And after all, if you join you get a free broom of high quality from Malfoy." Christine grinned at this. Malfoy was the biggest asshole she ever met, but at least she got a free broom out of it. She couldn't really afford a nice quality one on her own.

Kay's eyes light up with a slightly worrying light when the other girl says she won't blame her for a few kills. Doubtless she's plotting the deaths of certain Slytherins... Not that she'd actually kill anyone. She doesn't know if she has it in her, but she thinks she does.
"I think I want to become a dragon trainer.. Or something to do with magical beasts. I like animals far more than people, really." As if to demonstrate this point, Bast decides to flutter out of her arms and instead flies slowly around the compartment, squeaking far to highly for the humans below to hear him. After a little exploring, he comes back to land heavily on her shoulder, awkwardly sitting there as she reaches up to pet him.
"I've already got a good broom. Nimbus 2001, just like Malfoy gives the team. It's not as if a good broom makes a good player, anyway. What position do you play? I'm best as a keeper, but I can play any position at least marginally well." She doesn't mention that she's too short sighted to be a seeker; though she can play the position pretty well in terms of moves, the only way she can catch the snitch is if she gets really close to it.
